Schedule Of Events Ely  August 4 – 8, 2010

Wednesday, August 4

Registration at the Bristlecone Convention Center 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Mini-tour for early arrivals 1-6 p.m.
(Bus transportation provided if 50 or more register for the tour.)
Executive Director and historian Sean Pitts of

the East Ely Railroad Depot will lead the group on a tour which will include parts of

the Pony Express Trail, Cherry Creek, and McGill. The tour will depart from the

convention center promptly at 1 p.m.

Hotel check-in.
Dinner on your own.

 

Thursday, August 5
(
meet at the Bristlecone Convention Center to depart by 8:30 a.m.)

Registration at the Bristlecone Convention Center 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.
 

Full day of tours to include:
(Bus transportation provided.)

Ward Charcoal Ovens

Great Basin National Park, Baker, and the Lehman Caves tour

Box lunch at Great Basin National Park

Return to Ely around 5 p.m. (first group)

Main group: dinner on your own.

Platinum attendees: Ghost Train Dinner 6:30 p.m.

 

Friday, August 6

Late registration 7:30 – 8:45 a.m.

Presentations at the Bristlecone Convention Center all day to include:

Shane Bybee: Welcome to the Ely Boomtown History Conference 8:45 – 9 a.m.

Sean Pitts: Ghost Towns of White Pine County 9 – 10 a.m.

Coffee break: 10 – 10:15 a.m.

Mark Bassett: History of the Nevada Northern Railway 10:15 – 11:30 a.m.

LeRoy Johnson: The Story of the Bristlecone Pine 11:30 a.m. – noon.

Lunch on your own: noon – 1:30 p.m.

Ed Spear and Steve Gray: The Early Days in Ely and White Pine County
1:30 – 2:45 p.m.

Coffee break: 2:45 – 3 p.m.

Sean Pitts: The Pony Express in White Pine County 3 – 3:45 p.m.

Lynne Godfrey: The Hotel Nevada Then and Now 3:45 – 4:15 p.m.

Nicholas Clapp: Monte Cristo in the Old West 4:15 – 5 p.m.

Postal Palace prime rib buffet 6:30 p.m.

 

Saturday, August 7

Presentations at the Bristlecone Convention Center:

Mark Bassett: The Restoration of Engine 93 9 – 10:15 a.m.

Coffee break: 10:15 – 10:30 a.m.

Virginia Terry and Lorraine Clark: Renaissance Village & Ely’s Historic

Murals 10:30 –11:15.

Jean Johnson: Dr. J.R.N. Owen and the Hamilton Shoot-Out 11:15 a.m. – noon.

Lunch on your own: noon – 1:30 p.m.

Tour at the Renaissance Village: 1:30 – 2:45 p.m.

Free time: 2:45 – 4:30 p.m. Take some time to stroll the downtown streets and shops; view the murals; stop in at Art in the Park; visit the White Pine Public Museum; or just relax and get ready for a fun-filled evening!

Tour the East Ely Railroad Depot and the Nevada Northern Railway Museum 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Train ride at the Nevada Northern Railway: all aboard at 6:30 p.m.

Authentic barbecue dinner at the historic East Ely Railroad Depot Freight Barn 7:45 p.m. – until they make us leave!

 

Sunday, August 8

Conference wrap-up and round table discussion at the Bristlecone Convention Center 9 a.m. – noon. This will include discussions about the possible location for next year’s conference.
